Corewell Health Wayne Hospital Earns Prestigious Nursing Honor for the First Time

Corewell Health has the most Magnet hospitals in the state

Wayne, Mich., Sept. 23, 2025 – Corewell Health™ Wayne Hospital has achieved Magnet designation for exceptional nursing.

The American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet Recognition Program® is the highest international distinction a health care organization can receive for nursing excellence and outstanding patient care. Magnet hospitals are designated for four years.

“Earning Magnet status is such an incredible honor,” said Kelli Sadler, MHA, RN, Corewell Health East chief nursing executive. “It signifies that Corewell Health is among the best of the best in nursing, where excellence, innovation and compassionate care are the standard. I’m so proud of our nursing teams whose dedication to patients and families made this achievement possible.”

To achieve Magnet recognition, organizations must pass a rigorous and lengthy process that demands widespread participation from leadership and staff.

The process begins with the submission of an electronic application, followed by written documentation demonstrating qualitative and quantitative evidence regarding patient care and outcomes. If scores from the written documentation fall within a range of excellence, an on-site visit occurs to thoroughly assess the applicant. After this rigorous on-site review process, the Commission on Magnet reviews the completed appraisal report and votes to determine if Magnet recognition will be granted.

“When reflecting on how far we have come, especially since COVID, it is even more of an accomplishment to achieve this designation despite the many challenges we have faced,” said Anthony Childs, MBA, BSN, RN, chief nursing officer, Corewell Health Wayne Hospital. “This Magnet designation is a testament to our amazing nurses and the work family we are all a part of.”

As of September 2025, there are only 629 Magnet facilities in the world; Corewell Health has the most Magnet hospitals/facilities in Michigan. In addition to Corewell Health Wayne Hospital, the other hospitals include Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital, Corewell Health Beaumont Grosse Pointe Hospital, Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital, Corewell Health Taylor Hospital, Corewell Health Trenton Hospital, Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital and Corewell Health Grand Rapids Hospitals.
