GRAND RAPIDS and SOUTHFIELD, MI, Sept. 13, 2024 – A global health care association has recognized Corewell Health™ for its well-being initiatives, which include a division of well-being and a new online platform that streamlines and centralizes team member well-being resources and programs.
The International Hospital Federation honored Corewell Health and its online hub, BeWell, during the 47th IHF World Hospital Congress in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sept. 11. Corewell Health was selected as a bronze winner of the American Hospital Association Excellence Award for Health Care Workers’ Well-Being in the organization’s annual IHF Awards.
“At Corewell Health, the well-being of our team members is at the heart of everything we do. We are incredibly proud of our team's dedication to creating supportive resources and programming to help reduce stress and enhance overall well-being," said Corewell Health President & CEO Tina Freese Decker. "When we help our people care for themselves, they can provide even better care to our patients and communities. This recognition by the International Hospital Federation is an honor and affirms the positive difference BeWell has made in the lives of our team members.”
BeWell, an intranet hub that was launched in April 2024, addresses an issue that affects health care workers world-wide – the emotional, physical and psychological toll of their work.
“We recognized the need to move beyond focusing on wellness toward holistic well-being,” said Eric Bacigal, Corewell Health’s vice president of well-being. “The implementation of BeWell involved a strategic approach that included comprehensive assessments to identify well-being needs. It exemplifies our health system’s commitment to excellence in promoting team member well-being, and already we have been able to measure success from it.”
Since the site’s launch, Corewell Health has seen increased utilization rates, website traffic and program engagement.
“As a result of our work, we are seeing team members taking a more active role in promoting and participating in programming, along with conversations pertaining to how to transform the culture of health care through well-being,” Bacigal said.
Launched in 2015, the IHF Awards honors excellence in hospitals and health care organizations around the world. Of more than 500 IHF Awards entries this year, only 49 were chosen as finalists for the gold, silver and awards. The International Hospital Federation connects more than 25,000 hospitals in 70 countries throughout the world.
