Moonbeams for Sweet Dreams returns to brighten the holidays at Corewell Health Children’s in Royal Oak

ROYAL OAK, Mich., Nov. 20, 2025 – The beloved holiday tradition Moonbeams for Sweet Dreams is back to light up the night for pediatric patients at Corewell Health Children’s in Royal Oak December 9-23.

At 8 p.m. sharp, for 10 minutes, participants will come together with flashlights in hand, sending beams of hope and cheer to our littlest patients inside the hospital. In return, they will flash their own light back – creating a heartwarming exchange that reminds families they’re not alone this holiday season.

“Being hospitalized, especially this time of year, can feel extremely isolating for our kids and their families,” said Lisa Muma, RN, Moonbeam’s co-leader. “This tradition brings the holiday magic right to their windows and shows them how much the community truly cares.”

Sensory-friendly night

Again, this year, organizers are planning for a sensory-friendly night the evening before the traditional kick-off. This year’s sensory-friendly night is December 8.

“In the past, some community members couldn’t join Moonbeams because the noise, large crowds and stimulation were overwhelming for them,” said Kathleen Grobbel, Moonbeams co-leader and Child Life program manager. “The sensory-friendly option creates a safe, welcoming space for individuals with special needs to participate — many for the very first time.”

The evening will feature a quiet, low-stimulation environment with a support table offering stress balls, fidget toys, ear plugs and colored paper to dim flashlight beams. If you have a loved one with special needs interested in participating, please email any questions to Kathleen Grobbel at kathleen.grobbel@corewellhealth.org.
