New trauma recovery center offers free mental health support for survivors of violent crime
Corewell Health opens West Michigan’s first center dedicated to helping victims heal

GRAND RAPIDS, Nov. 24, 2025 – Survivors of violence in West Michigan now have a new lifeline: Corewell Health has opened the region’s first Trauma Recovery Center, offering free, comprehensive mental health care to help victims heal and rebuild their lives.

Located on the second floor of the Corewell Health Community Medicine Clinic at 75 Sheldon SE, the center offers comprehensive, personalized mental health services at no cost to patients. The program will support anyone who has been the victim of a violent crime and will offer free mental health support funded by the State of Michigan. 

“Every survivor deserves a chance to heal,” said Subodh Jain, M.D., vice president and department chief for behavioral health at Corewell Health. “This center ensures they don’t have to face trauma alone. Our multidisciplinary team includes psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, social workers, and addiction specialists, all working together to restore hope and stability.”

What the Center Provides

  • Assistive outreach and engagement
  • Individualized treatment planning with measurable goals
  • Clinical case management for immediate and long-term needs
  • Psychotherapy and medication management
  • Access to support groups and substance use treatment

Impact So Far

Early outcomes from patients in the 16-week program show:

  • 44% report decreased PTSD symptoms
  • 43% report decreased depression symptoms
  • 96% say treatment helped them feel better emotionally
  • 91% feel better able to handle day-to-day activities
  • 89% report improved ability to cope with substance use
