Farmington Hills, MI, Oct. 21, 2025 — Corewell Health™ Farmington Hills Hospital is proud to announce a $3.5 million investment in advanced radiation therapy technology, part of a broader $9.5 million system-wide initiative to enhance lung cancer care—just in time for Lung Cancer Awareness Month.
This investment includes two major equipment upgrades at Farmington Hills: a new CT Simulation Scanner, now in use, and a second linear accelerator scheduled to arrive by year’s end. These technologies will expand access to care and elevate the precision of radiation therapy for lung cancer patients. Additionally, Corewell Health is installing a state-of-the-art treatment planning system across the region, with a portion of that investment supporting the Farmington Hills site—bringing the total local investment to $3.5 million.
The CT Simulation Scanner plays a critical role in treatment planning. Its high-resolution 4D imaging maps the tumor and surrounding anatomy, allowing clinicians to define the exact location and shape of the tumor. These images serve as a blueprint for delivering radiation with pinpoint accuracy, minimizing exposure to healthy tissue.
“This investment reflects our commitment to providing the most advanced cancer care available,” said John Robertson, M.D., radiation oncologist at Corewell Health. “We’re proud to bring this technology to Farmington Hills and to support our patients with outstanding tools in the fight against lung cancer.”
The scanner’s advanced imaging capabilities allow clinicians to visualize tumors with greater clarity and tailor treatment plans to each patient’s unique anatomy. “Lung tumors are dynamic, often moving with the patient’s breathing,” added Dr. Robertson. “The new scanner’s ability to track this motion in real time ensures that radiation is delivered precisely where it’s needed, improving outcomes and reducing side effects.”
The addition of a second linear accelerator later this year will further expand treatment capacity and improve scheduling flexibility for patients undergoing radiation therapy. The new treatment planning system will integrate seamlessly with these technologies, enabling clinicians to design highly personalized care plans with greater speed, accuracy, and collaboration across Corewell Health’s regional network.
